HEALTH LEADERSHIP FELLOWS

PROGRAM DETAILS

The Health Leadership Fellows program is a one-year (September 2010 -June 2011) knowledge and skill-building program. It is designed to create leaders, particularly racial and ethnic community leaders, who represent a variety of public and private sectors in public policy, health practice, health care administration, community, law, business and commerce, advocacy, academia or any other related field.

Fellows are selected through a competitive process, which consists of submitting an online application and, if invited, a personal interview.

Commitment and Responsibility:

Fellows make a one-year commitment to attend two weekend retreats, monthly seminars and other education activities. Learning occurs through participatory sessions, team learning projects, and peer-to-peer consultations.  Additionally, Fellows participate in a project of their choosing, which demonstrates their leadership ability to influence others to take collective actions to eliminate racial and ethnic health disparities.

Benefits include the following:

  • Fellows will receive a stipend of $1,000 to aid their personal or professional development
  • Fellows who are employed by nonprofit organizations will receive a $250 gift for their employer.
  • Fellows will enhance their knowledge and skills of leadership and health issues through two weekend retreats.
  • Fellows will meet with national and local health leaders and policy-makers through monthly seminars.
  • Fellows will receive a limited number of professional coaching sessions
