What grants does the Connecticut Health Foundation fund?
Each year, CT Health awards about 5 percent of its endowment, between $4 million and $5 million, in grant funds. The foundation awards grants in three ways:
• Request for Proposal (RFP) grants or other invitational announcements for a specific program priority are announced on the homepage of the CT Health website. These announcements describe the problem to be addressed within one of three priority areas:
o Children'sOral Health: The goal of the children's oral health initiative is to improve the oral health of children covered by Medicaid. Over the next 10 years, CT Health's resources will be used to support projects that increase use of preventive and treatment visits to the levels achieved by children insured in the private sector; and identify and promote models of care that improve oral health outcomes for children covered by Medicaid in our funded communities.
o Children's Mental Health: The goal of the children's mental health initiative is to reduce the number of at-risk children ages 6-14 entering intensive treatment and/or the juvenile justice system due to mental health problems. Over the next 10 years, CT Health's resources will be used to support projects that promote a community-based system of early identification and intervention for children at risk of mental health problems; and support developing and disseminating knowledge in early identification and effective interventions relating to children's mental health.
o Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities: The goal of this initiative is to decrease racial and ethnic health disparities. Over the next 10 years, CT Health's resources will be used to support projects that create public will to decrease racial and ethnic health disparities in access and treatment; and improve the quality of systems that enhance patient-provider interaction.
• Unsolicited Grant Proposal: From time to time, CT Health considers proposals that support its overall mission and are responsive to its three priority areas. Due dates for these applications are posted on our website.
• Discretionary Grant Proposal: The foundation sometimes considers proposals from organizations in need of funds not to exceed $25,000. This funding also should support CT Health's mission to improve the health status of Connecticut residents. There are no specific deadlines for these applications.
The foundation does not fund: o Awards to individuals o Construction of buildings o Capital projects*, endowments, or chairs associated with universities and medical schools o Projects that do not benefit Connecticut residents o Lobbying or influencing the outcomes of a proposed legislation or election o Indirect cost for discretionary grants or general operating support grants
*Capital projects are projects that require a significant expenditure (generally $50,000 or more that result in the acquisition or construction of long-lived assets of 10 years or more).
